On November 8, 2019 at the American Academy of Hip and Knee Surgeons’ Annual Meeting, Zimmer Biomet and Faith In Practice signed an agreement through which Zimmer Biomet agreed to donate a full inventory of knee and hip implants including instrumentation direct to Guatemala for use by Faith In Practice’s orthopedic joint volunteer teams. Zimmer Biomet also agreed to replenish this inventory based upon usage.
The four-year agreement is an extension and expansion of the original agreement (donation of a rolling knee inventory and instrumentation) which was signed in April 2018. Zimmer Biomet’s newest agreement recommits to a knee implant inventory but adds knee revision instrumentation. It also includes a full inventory of hip implants with corresponding instrumentation. The agreement, like the first, includes Zimmer Biomet’s commitment to replenish the inventory on a rolling basis. This latest agreement doubles the value of the donation as well as doubles the length of the agreement.
Zimmer Biomet’s commitment allows surgeons to serve in mission without the labor-intensive process of requesting implant donations on a per patient, per surgeon basis. Everything they need will be ready for them when they arrive in Guatemala. Working together, Zimmer Biomet and Faith In Practice can do so much more, in a more streamlined fashion, because of this agreement. On behalf of our patients, their families, and our orthopedic surgical teams, thank you Zimmer Biomet!
