Day 2
May 3, 2025 – Guatemala
Today began with a group breakfast, followed by the task of loading up two buses with our entire team, luggage, and 26 trunks of medical supplies. Spirits were high as we set out, though what we expected to be a shorter ride turned into a 6-hour journey due to unexpected traffic delays. Our only stop was at a cozy rest area, where we enjoyed a favorite local dessert—an unexpected treat that lifted our energy.
Upon arriving at the hospital, we were warmly welcomed by the Casa de Fe staff. Their smiles and waves reminded us why we came. After dropping off our things in the break room, we were served a quick lunch and then invited to introduce ourselves—sharing our names and the roles we will serve in during this week-long mission.
The Faith In Practice team walked us through the week’s schedule and reviewed the important guidelines to follow during our time at the facility.
A guided tour of the hospital followed, which proved to be a highlight of the day. Many returning volunteers were especially excited to see that several patient care areas had expanded—and that the mobility clinic now has air conditioning. With up to 40 patients coming through daily, even small comforts like this make a big difference.
While visiting the chapel, our team leader Jay shared a touching story of a woman who once brought her son to Casa de Fe, pleading for him to be baptized. The team was honored to make that happen. To this day, the Mirelez team remains the only one to have a baptism as part of their mission week—an unforgettable moment that continues to inspire.
After the tour, we headed to our hotel to settle into our rooms before regrouping for dinner. Around the table, the buzz of anticipation was clear—nervousness mixed with excitement as everyone prepared for the important work ahead. Soon after, most turned in for the night to rest up for what we know will be a full day of service.
Please keep our team and patients in your prayers as we begin this mission of healing tomorrow.
