Hello everybody! Another day, another breakfast. Followed by another great devotional, which is always a calm part of the morning before the busy day begins! Not much has changed from yesterday to today. This morning we had a very nervous patient and we were able to give her a sense of calm. Most of her nerves were about whether she would be able to have more children. She went into surgery believing that she had a large ovarian cyst. After the surgery, she was so grateful and very relieved to hear that everything went well. And even more relieved to hear that the cyst was not ovarian, and was actually unrelated to her reproductive system. We all wish her the best of luck in her journey to more children.
Today was a long day for some of the surgeons, who despite the time, wanted to give surgery to all the patients they had scheduled. This is a true testament to their dedication to helping people. Thus far there have been no complications and everything is running relatively smoothly. Once everyone finished their scheduled surgeries and checked in on their patients post-surgery we met back at the hotel. Prior to dinner and during dinner, we had a guest speaker, Elizabeth Bell. She is a historian from Palo Alto, California who has been living in Antigua, Guatemala since she was 14, only leaving for college. She is known for her acts of preservation and education of the history and importance of Antigua. This was a wonderful addition to the night, it was nice to have something different, and have some history of Antigua brought to us!
After a long day of work, everyone still had the energy to watch the Warriors vs. Celtics game! Unfortunately, it was a tough loss for the Warriors today, but we are hoping for a better turnout on Friday’s game. Then it was off to bed for everyone to prepare for the final day of surgery!
