Clinic Day 2

The schedule for day 2 in the clinic started out similar to day 1. Devotion, breakfast, then the 15 minute ride to the clinic site. The morning’s devotion focused on putting God first with our actions. Choosing to be here in Guatemala, serving the many needs of the people of this community, shows that the staff of the mission is willing to do just that. Today, many children were seen and cared for. Patients got ultrasounds they needed. People received appropriate medications, sometimes requiring the pharmacists to compound unique formulas for their patients, especially when prescribing medication to children and babies. Once again, the mobility clinic served a seemingly constant crowd of patients. Many children with cerebral palsy were given the gift of mobility with a wheelchair. I watched one teen boy in a new chair, smiling and laughing as he played with the wheels of the chair, moving around the room on his own power. Another story of a life changed came to a young girl named Cristy. Many kids wait years to get chairs, but she was blessed with a chair at a young age. Her infectious smile brightened the day of all the therapists who worked with her. Following God with our actions isn’t easy. The staff work long days in the heat to care for patients, but when a patient’s life is changed, and you can see it on their face, you know it is a worthy calling.
