Robinson Team 887 arrived in Guatemala late on Saturday, February 7th with 34 U.S. volunteers from Oregon, Ohio, California, Minnesota, and Pennsylvania. After a night in Guatemala City (to save us from driving west just to drive back east in the morning), a two-hour bus ride brought our team to Sanarate, El Progeso, where we met up with 30+ Guatemalan Volunteers.
Sanarate will be the location of our village medical clinic for the next four days. Our team leads from Faith in Practice say that we are expecting 1,000 medical patients and 200 more Orthopedic Patients.
The Clinic is located at La Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Últimos Dias in Sanarate. The church is a beautiful space with multiple private rooms to accommodate our various clinic services. With specialties such as Orthopedics, Pediatrics, OB/GYN, Ultrasound, X-Ray, General Medicine, Mobility, and VIA Cryo, the clinic will help many people throughout the week.
Upon arrival at the clinic a little after noon on Sunday, we began the important process of setting up the clinic for the week. It is all hands on deck as the truck is unloaded and the church is transformed into clinics that will help the people of Guatemala. Boxes of wheelchairs are placed in the mobility clinic, water is offloaded into the kitchen, and exam stations and supplies are set up in each of the clinics. By the end of set-up the church looked like a well stocked medical facility.
Our team is now back at the hotel where we are meeting and planning for our first day of clinic that begins bright and early tomorrow.
