Day 2- 2/28/2026
Today’s journey began with about a 5 hour bus drive to the hospital. During the drive, we were able to see the volcanos Agua and Fuego from our bus windows. About half way through, we stopped by a store with frozen chocolate covered bananas which were some returner’s favorite treat. When we got to the hospital, we all gathered together for a lunch and orientation for the volunteering days ahead.
There is so much work behind the scenes before the arrival of each team. Each patient has been referred for surgery and tomorrow will go through an evaluation process. There are 4 operating rooms, a PACU, a mobility clinic, and a radiology room which includes CAT scan.
The mobility clinic is in a room further back in the hospital. Our team doctor will see about 35 patients with any concerns they may have starting tomorrow. Our wheelchair assemblers were eager to begin working and have already assembled a wheelchair.
After the preparations needed for tomorrow, we began our journey back to our hotel for some dinner and an early night. Tomorrow is when the real impact begins!
