Day 7- 3/4/2026
With today being the last day of surgeries and the mobility clinic, this calls for some reflection. We have been able to have a positive impact on the people of Guatemala. Throughout the entire mission, we worked alongside the local hospital team as well as the workers of Faith in Practice. Both groups have put so many hours into this week, as well as countless other missions. At the end of the day, they each thanked us for the positive impact we had made and told us that the patients saw us as angels. I would like to say that they are also angels. They are constantly helping the people of Guatemala and have had such a great impact on me, as well as on other members of the team.
At the mobility clinic, there was a bus full of people who came from a beach town south of us. Everyone who needed to was able to see the doctor and physical therapists and receive a wheelchair if they needed one. After everyone in their group had seen the doctor, they gathered outside and each shared their story with one another. It was truly a beautiful thing to witness. They then loaded the wheelchairs into a truck that followed the bus as they headed home.
In the operating rooms, the work was in full swing. The surgeons repaired hernias and removed cysts and masses today, among other procedures that will help alleviate pain for many of these patients. The surgeons will check on their patients postoperatively tomorrow morning. Each operating room team has grown more united during this mission.
