Day 3: Faith, Healing, and Hope in Motion
Today marked our second full day of surgeries, and from the moment the sun rose, there was a sense of readiness and excitement in the air. Travis, one of our reps, looked up at the clear blue sky and said, “It’s sunny—it’s going to be a great Tuesday.” And he was absolutely right.
Our morning devotional reminded us of something deeper than the medicine we practice: that this mission is not just about physical healing. It’s about the relationships we build, the encouragement we offer, and the love we share. We were reminded to see every interaction as a moment to reflect Christ’s compassion. One verse that stayed with me throughout the day was:
“And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.”
— Colossians 3:14 (KJV)
With that perspective in mind, we entered the day grounded in purpose.
In the morning, the doctors rounded on their patients. I joined Dr. Lintner and Dr. Hsin as we checked in with several of our post-op patients from the day before. Many shared how they felt surprisingly great—some with little to no pain. One moment that touched my heart was when a patient pulled me aside as I exited the room. She asked me to find Dr. Brian Parsley and tell him, “Thank you so very much.” She offered him blessings for replacing her knee and wore the biggest, most genuine smile. Moments like that remind us why we are here.
Later in the morning, I spent time with Billy Case, one of our physical therapists. We worked with all four of the Sports Medicine patients from yesterday. We walked from bed to bed, guiding each patient through gentle exercises, encouraging them, and helping them take those all-important first steps—whether with a walker or crutches. Seeing patients walking less than 24 hours after surgery was incredible. Many of them expressed how grateful and hopeful they felt. We reminded them that healing takes time and dedication, but with hard work and faith, full recovery is within reach. Their optimism was inspiring.
In the afternoon, I made my way to the OR to see the Sports Medicine doctors in action. It was a privilege to witness them work alongside Dr. Gonzalez, the local surgeon at Las Obras Hospital. Despite language barriers and different training backgrounds, it was powerful to watch the three of them trust and support each other throughout the procedure. It truly put things into perspective—when you share the same goal, passion, and heart, it doesn’t matter where you’re from or what language you speak. Healing becomes a universal language, and the outcome is nothing short of amazing when unity leads the way.
As day two comes to a close, I’m left reflecting on how much has already been accomplished—not just in surgeries and physical movement, but in hearts. Healing here is happening on every level. The gratitude we see in each patient’s eyes, the strength they find in taking their first steps, and the faith we carry into each moment all remind us that this mission is about so much more than medicine. It’s about love in action, and hope that endures.
