Day 1

This week, our orthopedic mission team is honored to serve patients in Guatemala through life-changing care and surgery. Together, we’ll be providing hip and knee replacements, caring for patients returning for revision surgeries, and helping others take their very first steps toward improved mobility and relief from chronic pain.
What makes this mission so special is the incredible group of people coming together to make it happen — orthopedic surgeons, nurses, surgical techs, PACU nurses, circulators, physical therapists, interpreters, pharmacists, and countless volunteers all working side by side with one shared purpose: to serve others with compassion and care.
One especially touching thing to note this week is witnessing a mother-and-son team caring for patients together. The son, Dr. Nate Haile, an orthopedic surgeon, is serving alongside his mother, Patty Haile, who is on her very first mission trip as a physical therapist. Watching them consult with patients together is such a beautiful reminder that medicine is more than a profession — it’s a calling that can span generations.
We are excited for the week ahead, grateful for the opportunity to serve, and inspired by the resilience and warmth of the patients we’ve already met and those we have yet to meet.
