A Life Saved

Luis Alexander’s lips were blue. At 9, he was a bundle of joy, but could not run very far, so his mother brought him to Floridalma’s Quintanilla’s very first Faith In Practice medical clinic in January 2009. There it became clear that Luis Alexander needed a specialist. That is when Flori and Faith In Practice took over. Appointments at UNICAR (cardiac hospital in Guatemala City) to detect his heart defect. Months of working with him on his infected teeth, including support from Dr. Nancy Glass’ team until more than one year later, Luis Alexander finally received his surgery. He is now in his early 20’s and studying to be an accountant. Without Faith In Practice, surely, but more than this, without our Guatemalan volunteer Floridalma Quintanilla, Luis Alexander would not be alive.

Now, Flori’s son, Tono, who was 9 years old the day we found Luis Alexander, is married and volunteering beside his mother, organizing clinics and accompanying surgical patients. He is married and has two children. We will be providing scholarship for his little ones when they reach school age. Certainly, they are future Faith In Practice volunteers! Click here to see Flori’s granddaughter Sofia! She says she wants to be a doctor when she grown up so she can help change people’s lives.

Also, see on your right photos of Luis Alexander the day he came to the clinic in 2009, several years later after his surgery and in April 2022 and most recently with Floridalma, the woman who saved his life.

Never could or Floridalma have known in 2009 what God would do through this mission in our lives, in the lives of new generations of Guatemalan volunteers, and the lives of our patients like Luis Alexander. It is truly a Faith In Practice family. Thank you for being a part of it.
