Day 1 – Saturday, February 7th

Team 886 has arrived!

We had a smooth travel day and have arrived safely to Antigua! Our 50+ member team flew in from Houston, Dallas, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Chicago and Panama City.

With many first time volunteers, the energy was high as we sat through orientation. Maria and Karen, our surgical coordinators for the week, gave us a warm welcome and shared that we are the first surgical team of 2026.

Ivonne, a community leader and Chair of the Guatemalan FIP Board, was also here to welcome us to The Land of Eternal Spring. She thanked us for saying Yes to the mission and joined us for a lovely dinner.

During the welcome session, we were reminded that Faith in Practice is more than just a medical mission and more than just healing a patient’s wounds. It’s about healing families and communities as well as transforming lives – for both patients and volunteers.

As we wind down our first night at the beautiful Quinta de las Flores hotel, we are sending a big Thank You back home to the spouses, partners, children, neighbors, colleagues and support systems who have made it possible for us all to be here this week.
