Day 1
Getting there….
For many of us the day starts somewhere around 2am. We gather our things, say goodbye to our families and head for the airport. No lack of sleep or missed morning coffee will keep us from our current goal: getting there. We arrive in Guatemala City around 12pm to meet up with our transport and other fellow mission volunteers. And its on the the next leg: driving to Antigua. Two buses, some snacks and a few baggage issues later, we’re well on our way.
The drive from Guatemala City is long and thick with traffic. And then, at 3:09 pm that familiar wood gate that is all that separates us from Quinta de las Flores opens. And although, we are a couple thousand miles from our houses; we feel at home. Physically, we have arrived. That is one goal achieved.
We haven’t conquered the real goal yet: to help as many Guatemalan people live a better life as possible. But. We’re getting there.
