Day 2 Monday, October 5th
Monday was a busy day across Team 921. Each surgeon was booked for three to four cases, the physical therapists spent the day evaluating patients in the mobility clinic, and the post-op nurses cared for patients as they came out of surgery.
This trip also has a dental team which is the first we’ve had in many years, seeing 25 patients on its first day. The team provided fillings, deep cleanings and other dental care.
The mobility clinic saw around 35 patients, each of whom left with a new device to help with daily activities. In the surgical rooms, teams worked through multiple challenging cases that called for coordination and support.
At one point, a physical therapist, Raven Giles, stepped in to help with casting a pediatric patient. During or between cases, team members also made sure one another had a chance to sit down or eat.
The morning devotional focused on prayer. That theme was a fitting start to a day when care took many forms. Not only in clinical work, but also in the attention team members gave to patients and to one another. Across every area, people were ready to step in where they were needed.
By the end of the day, every patient had taken a step toward a healthier, safer and happier life.
