Day 3- 3/1/2026

“The purpose of life is not to be happy.
It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be
compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.

What then is success?
To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate the beauty;
To find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded!”

-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Our day started early with a devotional where this quote was shared. I feel like this quote perfectly highlights the motivation behind the work done today.

There were 3 main locations in the hospital where work needed to get done.

The first group set up the operating room and PACU for the surgeries that will occur this week. This also included setting up our pharmacy where all of the medicines needed to be prepped for the surgery days ahead.

The second group consisted of surgeons, anesthesiologists and translators who helped evaluate the patients coming into the clinic. Each individual was evaluated to see what the best course of treatment would be for their particular situation. If surgery was the best option for them, they were placed on the surgery schedule and seen by the anesthesiologist.

The third group was located in the mobility clinic which mainly consisted of our wheelchair assemblers, physical therapist, translators and team doctor. The wheelchair assemblers put together a large number of wheelchairs and helped fix crutches that needed replaced parts. Our team doctor was able to see around 25 patients today coming in with concerns of all types.

By Ralph Waldo Emerson’s definition of success, today was definitely a successful day since we helped make the world a little bit better.
