A Life Transformed: Hedelmo’s Story of Pain, Perseverance, and Purpose
Thirteen years ago, Hedelmo Revolorio was working as a security guard on a factory farm when tragedy struck. Armed intruders entered the farm, and in the chaos, Hedelmo was shot. The bullet shattered his femur and exited through the back of his leg—leaving him in critical condition and at the mercy of an overwhelmed national health system.
The surgery he received after the shooting was poorly done, and his leg became severely infected. The pain was constant, unbearable. At one point, the infection became so dire that doctors recommended amputation. But Hedelmo wasn’t ready to lose his leg—and he wasn’t ready to lose hope.
A friend brought him to a Faith In Practice clinic, and that’s when his life began to change.
When he first came, there weren’t yet the right tools or implants available to help him. But he didn’t give up. He returned. And so did we. Eventually, the right plate became available. His infection was treated. His pain eased. His life slowly began to move forward again.
Today, under the skilled hands of Dr. Paul Toogood, Hedelmo is receiving another surgery to continue his journey of healing—this time in Antigua, after traveling six hours from his home.
But Hedelmo hasn’t just been a patient. His experience gave him a new purpose: to give back. He now volunteers as a community leader with Faith In Practice, helping others find the hope he once searched so desperately for.
When asked how he feels about his journey, Hedelmo said simply that it felt like God had sent him an angel with Dr. Toogood.
