Day 4

This morning’s devotional centered on affliction and the need to endure. It was topic that feels especially real when you spend your days in a hospital surrounded by both pain and healing. We talked about how in moments of suffering, endurance is what carries us forward. It’s not just about getting through hardship, but finding purpose and hope in the middle of it.

Rachel shared a story today that captured the meaning of endurance perfectly. A baby came out of surgery wrapped in a cast from her feet to her mid torso, just waking up from anesthesia—scared, crying, and confused. It was heartbreaking to see that little one in pain, not understanding what was happening. But as the nurses gently comforted the baby and explained everything to the parents, there was also this deep sense of hope. Everyone knew that the tears and pain were temporary—that healing was already beginning. This is a very difficult, but temporary struggle that in time would help this child.

That small moment reminded us of the day’s message: even in times of fear or pain, we hold on to the belief that things will get better. Healing takes time, faith, and endurance.

Affliction is a part of life, but so is resilience. Here in Antigua, we’ve seen both up close—the hard moments and the hopeful ones—and through it all, we’ve learned that endurance, fueled by love and faith, is what keeps us moving forward.
