A Love That Continues.

Dear Faith In Practice Family,

Have you ever paused to consider what it feels like for a patient in that first moment, when they realize someone truly sees them, and chooses to stay? To stay beyond the questions, beyond the uncertainty, and beyond fear. Long enough for them to believe: “I am not alone.”

At Faith In Practice, we are called to that kind of love. Not just showing up in a moment but remaining long enough for something deeper to take hold. Because while care can begin in an instant, healing often unfolds over time. Our patients are not problems to be solved. They are people to be known. And when someone is truly known, they begin to experience something even greater; they feel loved. I was reminded of this in a deeply personal way as we reflected on the lives of two beloved members of our Faith In Practice family whom we recently lost, Bob Malinsky, a Houston-based volunteer, and Dominga Garcia, a devoted Guatemalan volunteer.

When I spoke with Bob’s son, Matt, he shared something about his late father that has stayed with me: “My dad was just… someone who gave with his heart. Not once. Not occasionally. But again, and again”. Bob didn’t just serve in this mission; he lived it. He understood that love is not proven in a single act, but in a life of faithfulness. In returning. In giving. In choosing, time after time, to show up for others. Bob’s life reminds us that love does not end when the moment is over. It continues.

For Dominga, her life reflected that same love, perhaps expressed in a different, but equally powerful way. If Bob showed us the beauty of returning, Dominga showed us the power of remaining. She was there in the everyday moments. The unseen spaces. The quiet acts of compassion that form the foundation of true healing. Dominga ensured that care did not end when teams departed. She ensured that patients were not forgotten. She lived a love that stayed.

Together, their lives show us something sacred: That continuity of care is not just something we build. It is something we become. A commitment to walk with people, not just in their moment of need, but through their journey of healing. And this is where each of you comes in. Because of you, this is not just a momentary act of care. It is a continuing story of love where people are not only treated, but they are known. A story of love where people are not only helped, but they are also deeply loved.

So, as we reflect, I invite you to re-consider: Where in your life is God calling you not just to show up…but to stay? Where is God inviting you not just to give…but to continue?

It is in the quiet choosing to remain, to return, to love beyond what is seen, that we begin to reflect the heart of Christ.

As we carry forward this love that continues, I would also invite our Faith In Practice family to pause and lift up one of our own. Please join me in keeping Joe and Vera Wiatt’s oldest daughter in your prayers as she faces a medical challenge. In moments like these, we are reminded that the same care, compassion, and presence we offer to others is also what we extend to one another. May she feel the nearness of God, the strength that comes from his peace, and the comfort of a family that stands with her, praying, believing, and trusting in his healing presence.

“Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” 1 John 3:18

With deep gratitude, and in honor of all lives that continue to shape this mission.

Love you all.
