Day #4: Be the Light
Today was a beautiful reminder of God’s grace at work.
Our patients arrived with grateful hearts and incredible resilience. Their faith, acceptance, and joyful spirits are a powerful testimony of what it means to live life to the fullest despite physical challenges.
Many traveled nearly 1½ hours from the San Antonio, Guatemala community with humility and selflessness. They graciously accepted only what they truly needed, often choosing a cane or walker instead of a wheelchair if it was sufficient, knowing that the wheelchairs could then be reserved for someone with greater mobility needs.
These kindred spirits have been such a blessing to serve. Their strength, gratitude, and unwavering faith remind us that God’s love is evident in every smile, every act of kindness, and every opportunity to serve one another. We came hoping to make a difference, but once again, we are the ones leaving inspired, rejuvenated with humbleness and a better version of ourselves.
Goodness always comes full circle with#faithinpractice; giving back to the community of Atitlan; 5 unused wheelchairs were donated to a nearby hospital.
Being rooted in God fills your spirit and enriches your soul to feed others! Don’t forget those who stand in the shadow, they may be lost, deep in isolation or more rooted than yourself and you could fill your own cup with the fruits of Jesus/God/HolySpirit.
Felipe Xinic-93 years old: Is strong in spirit and resilient dispute his mobility is very limitations due to low strength to hold himself stable and loss of 90% of his vision. He is limited to walking only within the confines of the house due to his safety, unless for specific needs such as going to bed.
Having a wheelchair will give him self-value and freedom to move around the house for other interactive activities. Allowing his caregiver to easily transport Felipe to the Doctor and outings to get out to panic his so interactions involving in outside activities to keep him strong and maintain movement for healthy bones.
Emiliana -64 years old: Never been to Dr-she fell in a hole when she was a little girl and never went to Dr-when she got older she began to have problems as a result of no medical care. Emiliana came today to gain mobility independence. She walks good with Crutches-gave her an extra pair as backup.
Felipe-Sicajan 45 years old
When Felipe was 8 years old, he became ill, the disease affected his body, causing his bones to contract inward. His mother is no longer with him so his aunt has taken on the role of caring for him.
Despite his physical challenges impacting his body positioning, Felipe has learned to adapt and move in his own way; adjusting in his chair with incredible determination. Receiving a wheelchair today means so much more than mobility. It gives Felipe the ability to sit up taller, see the world differently, and feel a greater sense of independence and dignity. It also gives his aunt relief from the physical challenge of carrying him and allows her to care for herself as well.
The smile on Felipe’s face when he sat in his new chair said it all. Moments like this are why we come on these mobility missions—to serve, to support, and to share God’s love through a simple gift that can change a life.
God’s blessings were truly reflected in Felipe’s smile. ❤️
