Our village team is back together serving on our Faith in Practice Medical Mission Trip. This year we are housed at a school in Sanarate, Guatemala.
Today was a good, long day. I fired up the guitar for our 6:00 a.m. devotions to get the blood flowing. This year we are using Colossians 3:12-17 as our foundational scripture. Each day we are focusing on one scripture. In addition to wearing scrubs, every team member has clothed themselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.
Today was a very full day. We saw many patients and had to stick around a little longer than usual to get it all done. Most of the clinics were busy all day long. The patients received medical care, vitamins, prescriptions, injections, wheelchairs, referrals for surgery, and a lot of compassion and kindness.
One wife who had to physically carry her husband, Cristobal, around because his leg was amputated, received a wheelchair which will raise the quality of life for the entire family.
Kimberly, a seventeen-year-old, who could barely hear, received a hearing aid which brought a big smile and tears to everyone in the room.
Everyone receives something when compassion is shared. Compassion literally means to suffer with someone. Maybe God is calling you to suffer with someone who is in need.
Prayer: Dear God, thank you for giving us hearts and hands to suffer from your children. Thank you for using us to help heal those in need. Amen.
