So breakfast was slightly interesting.  We have three volcanoes (Agua, Acatenango and Fuego) that hover over Antigua.  As our team sat and enjoyed their food, some were able to witness a little plume rise from one of the volcanoes in the distance through the clouds.

As far as today, Gavin led our team in a devotion on John 21.  He discussed with us the concept of Peter running back to fishing instead of running towards his purpose.  He also spoke of Peter’s three denials and how Jesus recommissioned him with three questions about Peter’s love for him.  This was a great reminder for all of us that we have no condemnation in Christ (Romans 8:1-2).

After our devotions, we headed straight over to the hospital.  Today ended up being a longer day for us as our surgical teams accomplished 12 separate surgeries.  With a flurry of work going on there, we also witnessed our PT teams working with yesterday’s patients through using equipment and sending them home for recovery.

We’re so grateful for all those helping make this happen.  And we’d like to give a shout out to our phenomenal partners, Faith In Practice.  We can’t say enough about what it means to be able to work alongside them.  Their team seems to be everywhere from prepping equipment to setting up x-rays,  helping with PT, moving patients, and providing overnight care.

Even more, we LOVE the fact that they do something we can’t on a short term trip.  FIP is passionate about providing the continuity of care each of our patients need.  This is one of the AMAZING blessings we have from partnering with their organization.  So much goes into our week to make these surgeries happen, but our patients’ journeys of healing are only beginning.  Through FIP, each patient gets the care they need to step into their new life.

With all that said, we had a pretty long day with the majority of our team getting back around 6:30 p.m. or so tonight.  Time to sign off for now and get some rest.

Check back in tomorrow for some more updates!
